Film Four: foreign language film without sound and dialogue.
Radio 1: fill the gap of the missing 5-minutes
Radio 4 :new radio drama (5 minutes drama)
exToday I will focus on the radio project and working in a team with Sinead and Sian. We decide to choose radio 4 for create ours 5 minutes of drama. We also discussed about our roles; Sinead and Sian will be actors and voice-over for radio while mine is creating a script. We also discussed about what type of drama program we wanted to create. Our idea was two people walking in a wood when they find a dead body, then they come with some plan.
c. I think both primary and secondary research methods are useful when working in the media industry because I am interested in interviewing or collecting data from a group of deaf people about their situation linked to barriers in the hearing world e.g. mainstream school. This would help me to prove that this issue need to be improve. Primary research may show finishings that can then be backed up by secondary. Both research used together leads to a more complete perspective. Therefore for secondary research, it would be also useful to research through the internet about other deal people’s opinion from different area s about how their life get affected by communication barriers. I could also look in the library for deaf history and fins newspapers article. Deaf people in the UK are interest in deaf history as it represents their true identity and incisor on passing on their next generation.
Bim Ajadi is a deaf filmmaker. Before he become a filmmaker, he was a freelance graphic art designer and a director for pop videos.
According to the link below, he believe deaf people with different levels of deafness can access music.
Once Ajadi was refused by York City for a professional contract because he was deaf.
Ajadi born in Nigeria and raising up in UK at age three. Later, he attend in Leeds Art college to focus on professional product designer which he want for his career. According to this link, he explain the reason he choose to become this career: “Design allows me to express my ideas, and it allows me to show people those ideas without the need for explanation or sound.” This suggests the art design is the vision for him and other deaf people. He also want to show that his work is not necessary for sound. It just show by the vision.
Unfortunately for him, his career of art design was failure as his skill of IT is lacking. However, he went different way to Shape London which is the deaf organisation. It involve the 2D graphic art and he enjoy it. He then move to the goal of 3D.
Finally, he know what he want to do with his career so he worked with Phil McNally whose include in SFX for Star Wars episode 2. Later, he was influence by Channel 4 and Jezebell the German company, to create his own film. He then involve twenty five deaf people (some of them are the dancer and crews) to create the pop video.
Bim Ajadi created the total of twelve films when he was an editor. Some of his works includes documentaries and short films for example “Deaf Sisterhood” which is a TV movie documentary and is released in 2011.
In the morning in college I carried on working with Jimmy and Connor on our short film: Creep. We finished with our risk assessment (weather raining etc) before walking outside to the park called Rougemont where we filmed Jimmy (who also act as a guy because our chosen actors couldn’t be involved in our film) so I set the equipment before started to film.
After the filming I work on the different stages of:
PRE PRODUCTION: before the film has start, there is lot of thing to prepare for the shooting.
PRE PRODUCTION: before the film has start, there is lot of thing to prepare for the shooting.
The producer’s responsible to find the right locations.
Storyboard artist have to create the storyboard for the film include to make it similar with the book.
PRODUCTION: the start of the shooting.
POST-PRODUCTION:aftermath of the film. There are lots of things to sort out with the film before it is released to the public. There would be editing the video, adding the music/sound, adding colour etc.
I prefer to work on post production the most because I enjoy editing the video to make the film look more realistic before releasing it to the public. I also like the editing because I can add the subtitle and other people can add sound/music too. It will help me to confident to communicate with deaf and hearing people in the film/ TV company.
PRE PRODUCTION JOB (storyboard artist)- Martin Asbury. He was drawing James Bond series (Skyfall e.g.), Harry Potter series etc.

I felt very nervous and excited because this college is the boarding college and I have never been in boarding. I will stay there and then go home for the weekend every three weeks and for holidays. Because I live in St Albans it take about four hours to Exeter and i went to Exeter with my Dad, Mum and my young sister, Emma whose was year seven in Stag School for Girl (in St Albans).

Saturday 12th September 2015:
Woke up at 7.15am, I read the book (Bible) and change my clothes before make myself breakfast (hot Porridge Weekbix). Next I pack the media work and other things in my bag before walking downstairs to greet other staff (there are about four) including deaf students (about 7 or 9 students) in the dining room. I sit on the wooden chair and do writing the draft script and it is easy though I have to think about how to add the type of angles. Then I copy this draft on the laptop before I print the 6 pages and I divide them. One paper for me as my role is the director, other for Connor (assistant director) and Jimmy (producer) include for Chris and other guy who doing actor. In addition, one paper is backup and after that, Joel and me went to walk to pier nearly to the Deaf Academy. While we were walking, I bumped into my old friend, Katie and she gave me her mobile number!
Then Joel and me walked to a small café and I had ‘Mary Berry’ smoothie (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries) and it is delicious!
Empty Mary Berry smoothies

Joel had a hot chocolate with a brownie. Then we had chat about tomorrow; we thought about going to Teighmouth to meet her friend. When we finished, we walked back to the Academy and we had pasta with mince and vegetable for dinner before we went to the girl’s flat to watch TV and I Skype with my family (miss them so much!) and typing the blog!
Sunday 13th September 2015:
Woke up at 6.30am, changed my clothes, made breakfast and grab my bag to meet Joel outside (been let the staffs know about our trip). Walk to the bus station and when we catching a bus that take us to Teighmouth which is about forty minutes journey.
I have been thought about how to make re scene using one of those directors that I chose when my idea went click!
I decide to re scene from the Switched At Birth film which is based in US. This film is involve deaf and hearing actress who use ASL (America Sign Language)- I can use some deaf friends in Deaf Academy and try to look for the hearing actor who use British Sign Language.
PRE PRODUCTION: Before I start to filming, I create the plan using the sheet of ‘Film Scene Details’ that include some media keyword:
WEEK 1: MONDAY 28TH- TUESDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 2015:
Finish the script and give it to Joel who would be act as Daphne.
Continue work on storyboard
Other actor who would be Bay, was unable to do filming because she have to go to her friend’s party.
Luckily Joel have other friend who live in Teighmouth can do acting. Unfortunately Teighmouth is the small place and is difficult to find the house to borrow for filming.
I decide to use my bedroom in Academy- this mean i have to say the staffs for permission.
WEDNESDAY 30TH OCTOBER 2015:
Nearly finish with storyboard (finish with the drawing and during of the film)- I need to add the script on the storyboard so I can use it for subtitle.
Add some information in the blog.
Been ask the staffs in the Academy about the filming- they say yes.
THURSDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2015: Checklist blog
RESEARCH MY CHOSEN DIRECTOR: Switched At Birth 3X22 (Yuletide Fortune Tellers) name is Michael Grossman.
DETAILED ANALYSIS OF MY CHOSEN SCENE:
REASON OF MY CHOSEN SCENE TO RE MAKE:
It is simply a conversation between Daphne and Bay
It is a simple clip and easy to produce.
Most deaf young people love to watch this.
I want to create more deaf TV and film programmes for deaf actors in the UK in future as these are rare.
Also I would like to create more of mainstream programmes with the deaf and hearing actor

There are some media jobs I would like to being such as TV director, TV editor, film director and film director.
However there are different wage for each job. Firstly is TV editor’s wage are variable as there are different editor role within hour and different programs (soap, drama etc) such as 1st assistant editor whose wage is £107.05 for eight hours a days while working in the soaps. Surprisedly, if the assistant editor working for sixty hours for a week can earn £869.76.
